Meet the Maker: Mugsby
Share
If you've visited our store, you may have noticed that we have a lot of t-shirts, mugs and stickers. There's a real good reason for that.
You might not know something about half of The San Market's ownership team: before there was a shop on the square, there was a mug.
Kelly, who co-owns The San Market, is also one half of Mugsby: the snarky, slightly unhinged drinkware and gift brand she runs with her husband Troy. And no, "slightly unhinged" isn't us being cute. That's basically their whole brand promise, and it delivers.
From random idea to actual business
Mugsby launched back in 2016, and what started as mug making in their garage turned into a full lineup: coffee mugs, travel tumblers, wine cups, graphic tees, hats, stickers, car coasters, the works. Turns out people weren't just buying mugs for their coffee. They were buying them for pregnancy announcements, milestone gifts, inside jokes, and the kind of stuff you actually want sitting on your desk. Mugsby leaned into that, hard, and built a whole catalog around things people keep, gift, and talk about.

Why this matters to us
Running a wholesale product business teaches you things that a small retail shop benefits from immediately: how to source, how to price, how something actually gets from an idea to a shelf. Kelly brings all of that into how we run The San Market, and honestly, it shows. If you've ever wondered why our shelves turn over with new stuff so often or why our product mix never feels stale, some credit goes to a mug company a few exits down I-35.
So next time you're in the shop and something on our shelves makes you laugh a little too hard, there's a decent chance it has Kelly's fingerprints on it in more ways than one.
